Personal Notecards from e.m.papers

tags:

Eleanor and I met last spring at The Hive Conference in Berlin, and hit it off right away. Eleanor is an American girl who went to Munich for work, stayed for love, and after ten years of work in consulting decided to make her passion her job: designing stationery. And yes, she´s as cool as it sounds!

What´s special about Eleanor´s designs is that she allows you to download and print her designs yourself. This means not only that you´ll have a super-last-minute option for, say, birthday cards. It also means that you´ll  save a ton of money… especially if you want something a little more extensive, like a wedding invitation suite.

I liked the idea, so I decided to give it a try. Here´s the result: my new personal notecards! Admittedly, it took me a while to convince my printer to print the right colour and format, but now I´m really happy about how they turned out. What do you think?

Oh, and if you want to know more about Eleanor and her business, here´s her website, Etsy page, and this great in-depth interview with her on the etsy blog. Enjoy!

Zana and Jason - Wedding in Duino, Italy

Trieste and its surrounding region holds a special place in my heart and mind. My father´s family - up to my grandfather - is from Trieste, and as a child I used to spend a few weeks every summer there, in the dusty old apartment in the middle of the old town, just a few steps from the Piazza Unità. This apartment, filled with old furniture and full of treasures - a collection of old keys, say, or old letters found in some drawer -  was my very own kingdom and favourite playground.

I also, of course, remember the awe in front of beautiful Castello Miramare, and the trips to the seaside at Sistiana with my already very old grandmother, where we would spend the day snorkeling, eating watermelon, and learning card games from my grandmother.

No wonder, then, that I was absolutely delighted when Zana contacted me and asked me whether we would photograph her wedding, just half an hour from Trieste, at the beautiful Castello di Duino. Not only did I get to revisit Trieste and see how it has changed - and how much of its magic is still, in fact, intact; but Daniel and I also had the chance to get to know Zana and Jason, their families and friends, and to be a part of their beautiful celebration.

Zana started the day getting ready at the Hotel Savoia in the old town of Trieste, and we even had time to do a lovely bridal session in the morning. (You can find more of these pictures in this blogpost). For a few consecutive days before the wedding, it had rained, and so in the morning, the skies and the sea were clean and bright and brandnew.

Zana and Jason, it was a real joy to get to share this day with you, and to be a witness to your vows and celebration! We´re already looking forward to being a part of your vow renewal as well some day!

Mariam and Fabian - Couple Shoot in Stockholm

In early spring, we spent a few wonderful days in Stockholm. Neither Daniel nor I had ever visited a Scandinavian country, and Stockholm really enchanted us from the first day. We came home with way too much old porcelain from Stockholms Stadsmission, a ton of pictures, and the definive wish to return there as soon as possible!

We also got to spend a lovely afternoon with Mariam and Fabian, strolling along the waterfront and through some of Djurgarden - basically an island that is a park. It was really quite chilly, especially once the sun started to set (we seem to be specializing in chilly couple shoots...), but the light, and the beautiful and constantly changing colours of the sea were really too good to just sit inside and drink tea. Thanks Mariam and Fabian for exploring some of Stockholm with us, we hope to see you again there soon!

Feathery Delights

I know I´ve been a lazy blogger lately, but with wedding season in full swing work has been abundant, and we´re travelling all the time. I´m leaving for Paris today, but thought I´d share a little sneak peak from a session I did a few weeks ago while we were in Brussels. I met with modiste Gaia Schwarzenberg there to shoot a few of her beautiful creations... if you ever need a hat (or feathery delight) for a special occasion, she´s the one to call!

More images to come in the next few weeks!

Joanna and Erik - Wedding in Perugia, Italy

Joanna and Erik got married in the beautiful Castello di Monterone in Perugia, in July last year. It must have been one of the hottest days of the year, but that certainly didn´t dampen the spirits of the two, or of any of their guests who had flown in from the UK, Norway, Canada and the U.S.!

The ceremony was held on a platform overlooking the valley, and combined traditions from Jo´s Jewish and Erik´s Catholic background, which made for a very special and moving celebration. They also read vows to each other that they had written themselves, and their friends read texts from sources as different as Walt Whitman´s poetry and "When Harry Met Sally". The loud and joyous "Mazel Tov" from all the guests together ended the ceremony - and ever since I think every wedding should include this!

The party in the evening was one of the most joyful we´ve ever been present at, and I think there was NOBODY - old, young, man, woman - who didn´t join in the dance! Part of this was certainly thanks to the wonderful band, the Jake Goss Quartet from London - they played the finest jazz during the ceremony and at the reception, and in the evening helped filled the dancefloor in seconds with Klezmer Music (which they told us is usually not really in their repertoire!)
What a great day, thanks Joanna and Erik for having us!

Actors Portraits in Berlin - Anne von Keller

If I could name just one person who embodies the Berlin spirit for me, it would be Anne. She´s an actress, she´s in a band, she could easily be a stylist, and she also makes wonderful collages and illustrations. And of course, on top of all that, she has these unique fab looks. So, altogether, a bit of a miracle!

We had a really lovely two hours of photo shoot, and I´m happy I even got to capture her fabulous Jane Birkin smile!

Just a sneak peek for a portrait session I´ll be posting here next week... Have a wonderful week-end!

Elisabeth and Markus´ Wedding in the Austrian Alps - Part 1

tags:

Elisabeth and Markus´ wedding was without a doubt one the most unconventional and fun wedding we´ve photographed so far. Of course, I should have seen it coming... I´ve known Elisabeth for about ten years, back when we were both still studying theatre in Vienna,  and she´s just the kind of girl who, well, would walk effortlessly in five-inch heels for hours on end, and then jump into her mountain gear and go hiking. Which is exactly what she did on her wedding day!

When Elisabeth and Markus decided to get married, they were pretty clear about what they wanted for their wedding: have a really fun and action-packed day with their friends and family. They also decided to incorporate as many things as possible that they really like. Therefore there was a civil ceremony in a baroque monastery, an impromptu picnic at a lake, hiking, beer and cake on the "Alm", and cocktails  and dancing in a friend´s club - all in one day!

I´ll be posting the second half of the photos here tomorrow. As always, I´d love to hear your comments and thoughts!
